Events in the US

The Breast Cancer 3-Day: This is a 3-day, 60-mile event benefitting the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and The National Philanthropic Trust.
The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer: This event takes place over two days, and offers a choice of 26 or 39 miles. This event benefits the Avon Foundation
Race for the Cure: This event is the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world.
Rally for the Cure: The first and largest national golf country club program for breast cancer awareness.
Concert For The Cure: An annual event featuring members of the Boston Symphony, which raises funds exclusively for medical scientists studying the basic biology of breast cancer.
Lee Denim Day: Each year, on the first Friday of October, Lee sponsors "Denim Day" the largest one day fundraiser for breast cancer. In exchange for a $5 donation, employees of participating companies get to wear jeans to work on that Friday. All funds go directly to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and Lee foots the bill for any costs associated with the event.
Sing for the Cure: An event that requires a bit more personal participation as far as the aspect of organization. The event is one of the several that are put on by the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Cook for the Cure: There are several different ways KitchenAid is participating in the fight against breast cancer. Here you can read about their pink appliances, classes offered in October, as well as how to throw a Cook for the Cure Dinner Party to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
BMW - The Ultimate Drive: The program features two cross country caravans of 18 specially marked BMW cars to take the Komen message to the streets of America. Guests are invited to test drive the vehicles to raise money for the Komen Foundation at BMW retail centers across the nation. For each mile driven, BMW contributes $1 to the Foundation.
Brides Against Breast Cancer: Brides across America have helped Making Memories fulfill the wishes of breast cancer patients through wedding gown donations and support of our Brides Against Breast Cancer Nationwide Tour of Gowns.
Hard Rock Cafe & Lifetime: Hard Rock Cafe has joined forces with Lifetime Television to raise funds for several different charities. They are selling collectible pins and T-shirts, as well as holding an auction of guitars.
Run For The B.E.A.C.H.: An annual run held in Midtown Ruidoso, New Mexico. The 2003 Run & Fun Walk will take place on September 13.

Ways to Contribute

The Breast Cancer Site: This is a website on which you can donate free mammograms to women who need them by just clicking. The site has many sponsors, which donate a certain amount per click. The site also has a store with a very large selection of The Breast Cancer Site products.
Breast Cancer Prayer Flags: For a $100 donation you can have a prayer flag dedicated to a loved one, and proceeds go to The Breast Cancer Fund.
Race Fans For The Cure: Program is funded by Ford Credit and benefits the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Includes a schedule of NASCAR races where donations are accepted, as well as a selection of Race Fans for the Cure merchandise.
PinkRibbons.com: Help save lives while surfing the net! I haven't tried this service myself, but it offers everything MSN, AOL and Earthlink do, with the bonus of knowing you are supporting breast cancer programs. Plus, it's less expensive!

Foundations and Information

The Susan G. Komen Foundation: A foundation established by Nancy Brinker that began as a promise to her sister. The site has many resources about early detection, fundraising, events, as well as a marketplace full of pink ribbon items.
Avon Breast Cancer Crusade: A U.S. initiative of Avon Products, Inc. that began in 1993. Its mission is funding access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer. Avon raises funds by selling special "pink ribbon" products, and with events like The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.
Y-Me National Breast Cancer Organization: The mission of Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization is to ensure, through information, empowerment and peer support, that no one faces breast cancer alone.
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month: National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is dedicated to increasing awareness of the importance of early breast cancer detection.
National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.: Breast cancer news links-National Breast Cancer Foundation gives the latest breaking news stories on breast cancer, educates women about the importance of life-saving techniques of early detection, offers support programs for breast cancer patients, and conducts educational seminars on breast cancer with free to low-cost mammography for low-income women.
The National Breast Cancer Coalition: The National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund is a grassroots organization dedicated to ending breast cancer through the power of action and advocacy. The Coalition's main goals are to increase federal funding for breast cancer research and collaborate with the scientific community to implement new models of research; improve access to high quality health care and breast cancer clinical trials for all women; and expand the influence of breast cancer advocates in all aspects of the breast cancer decision making process.
Cure Breast Cancer: CureBreastCancer, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing breast health awareness and education to all women and their families. Working through the dedicated volunteers, CBC has consistently returned over 90% of all contributions to the community through its programs and services.

Boarding for Breast Cancer: Boarding For Breast Cancer (B4BC) is a non-profit, youth-focused education, awareness, and fundraising foundation. Their mission is to increase awareness about breast cancer, the importance of early detection and the value of a healthy lifestyle.
Women's Information Nework Against Breast Cancer: WINABC has many resources on its site, and also puts together exciting events like Shop for a Cause (now that's my kind of a fundraiser!)
American Breast Cancer Foundation: Their mission is to provide a fighting chance to every life threatened by breast cancer no matter what age, race, sex, or financial challenge through screening assistance programs, research, and support for breast cancer patients and their families.
Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Foundation: A research foundation which specifically targets IBC and research to find its cause.
The Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center: University of Calif., San Francisco's medical center performs clinical trials and treatment research. Read a newsletter and peruse forum topics.
Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation: The Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation (ABCF) is a non-profit organization whose purposes are to provide support and information by trained peer volunteers via the Breast Cancer Helpline, to help educate the public on the importance of early detection and breast self-exam, and to participate in community outreach programs.

Pins, Ribbons, Buttons and other Breast Cancer Awareness Related Products

The Breast Cancer Site Store: This site offers various different items, from jewelry to clothing. A portion of all purchases goes to help promote awareness, as well as pay of mammograms.
Komen Marketplace: Komen Foundation's marketplace sells pins, cards, magnets, CDs, books, and even socks and shoelaces. If you purchase 20 or more of one item, you will receive a 5% discount on that item with the exception of pink enamel pins and any item on sale. Sixty-two percent of the sales price will benefit the Komen Foundation and the fight against breast cancer.

The Ribbon Lady: Rita is a breast cancer survivor who has created some great products. She sells pins, ribbon cards, embroidered ribbons by the roll, and even a clever invention called the ProtectArm to protect breast cancer survivors from Lymphadema (read more on her page).
Designs With A Heart: Laurie Sayward makes beautiful pink ribbons with gold accents. Each ribbon is one of a kind. A portion of the proceeds goes to various breast cancer organizations.
Garden Paper, Inc: Melanie and Karen are both Avon 3-Day veterans. They've added pink ribbon products to their line of handmade stationary, which include beautiful thank you notes, crystal tattoos and memory albums. 20% of proceeds are sent to breast cancer charities. What's best, if you are doing an event (Avon 3-Day, Komen walk, Revlon walk etc.), they will send the 20% from your, or your supporter's order to your personal fundraising!
Positive Promotions: This site offers all kinds of products, not only for breast cancer awareness, but also for other causes. They even offer an "Idea Guide" for spreading the knowledge about breast cancer.
HealthPromotionsNow.com: BSE Reminder stickers (to stick on your calendar), shower cards, key rings, magnets, and even nail files and fortune cookies! Sold in large quantities, prices vary by quantity.
PinsCentral: PinsCentral has really great enamel pins in pink, as well as other colors. They sell in bulk quantities, so they're a great idea for handing out to friends. I plan on giving these to my donors.

Outside the US

CIBC Run For The Cure: An annual event benefiting the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation's research, treatment, and educational programs. Find information about participating, volunteering, etc.
Breast Cancer Campaign: A British organization which "will fund this [breast cancer] research at any centre of excellence anywhere within the United Kingdom providing it meets our quality criteria and is favourably peer reviewed."
National Breast Cancer Foundation: An Australian foundation which is celebratin its 10th anniversary this year.
Rethink Breast Cancer: A Canadian charity fighting breast cancer and expanding support for the cause through innovative breast cancer research and awareness. Rethink is a national volunteer-driven registered charity with a bold, enterprising and entrepreneurial approach.
Lucy Lawless' Breast Cancer Research Designed T-shirts: A T-shirt that Lucy designed to help in the research in finding a cure for breast cancer. Proceeds go to the New Zealand Breast Cancer Research Trust.
